Tsubaki was originally studying to become a teacher, but eventually decided to follow Koga instead, who was already working as a manga artist. After Tsubaki won third place in a contest, an editor approached her, and she has been working as a mangaka ever since. She has stated that her inspirations include her sister and [Yoshihiro Togashi](https://anilist.co/staff/96893/Yoshihiro-Togashi), as Togashi's _Yu Yu Hakusho_ series was the first manga Tsubaki bought on her own.
