While attending the university he was in the same year as the Macross character designer [Haruhiko Mikimoto](https://anilist.co/staff/96968/) and creator [Shouji Kawamori](https://anilist.co/staff/97501/), both of which where the first people he collaborated with in [The Super Dimension Fortress Macross](https://anilist.co/anime/1088/). This marked the start of his scriptwriting career.
