She made her debut in 1988 with Ninja Kumari, which appeared in the Newtype supplement Comic Genki, published by Kadokawa Shoten. She is best known, however, for her two long-running manga adaptations of Kyokutei Bakin's 19th-century epic novel Nansou Satomi Hakkenden. The first, Hakkenden, is a straightforward adaptation, while the second, Blind Game, reimagines the story in a near-future setting. Another notable work is her Kigai Karte series, a collection of standalone stories that began in 1994 in the magazine Wings, published by Shinshokan. Only one of Aomata's manga, Tenka Ichi!!, has been translated into English. One of her earlier works, Fight!, was adapted into a single-episode OVA by J.C.Staff in 1993 and later released in the United States by Media Blasters in 2001.
