Sawano began practicing the piano at an early age, and studied composition, arrangement, orchestration, and piano under Nobuchika Tsuboi from the age of 17. Active as a composer since 2004, he first gained recognition for his work on the Team Medical Dragon TV drama in 2006. In 2009, he released his first solo album *musica*, which included some of his more popular songs done for TV show
