How BL anime should be done -- a genuinely powerful story
__(this review contains spoilers)__
When I first heard about Given getting an adaptation, I was overjoyed. Finally, we got a tasteful BL manga where no one is getting fetishized, there isn't any problematic subtext, and the anime has an actual plot beyond their relationship. All of these things are…

The past few years have really gifted us with some quality gay anime. With LGBT romance in anime long-time being portrayed as overly melodramatic, rape-y, and fetishistic, this new crop of shows over the past few years that aim more for realism and positive representation is quite refreshing. Doukyu…

given balances humor & fun vs. sad & emotional very well. when i was laughing at certain parts, i didn't feel like it was taking away from the more emotional scenes or plot. and the humor alone is excellent. i usually don't watch comedic anime, and i was actually watching given specifically because…

If anyone had told me back in 2013 that we'd one day get a BL anime with proper pacing, an actual story with a plot and emphasis on the emotional aspect, that dealt with LGBTQ issues properly, I would have laughed in their face.
Well, I guess I'm still laughing now, but this is a laugh of pure joy…
Read full review on AniList →While not quite the great emotional gay drama that Bloom Into You was, Given is a delicate and adorable sleeper hit.
Given is 2019’s dark horse. It’s a title that has been slept on for its subject matter instead of appreciated for its prowess. Unlike Bloom Into You which received a major backing over the course of its run, Given seems to have received little fanfare within the community despite the praise most vie…

__Rating:__ 10/10 (Exceptional)
__Review Summary: __If you like gay movies and series, Given is the best shounen-ai (boys love) anime and you should definitely watch it because it's even better than Banana Fish and Yuri on Ice.
(this is one of my all-time favourites)

Music is a powerful tool. That’s a fact that we may not realize at first, but once it hits you in the face, you can never forget it. Singing allows you to convey any feeling you may feel in your heart, even when it feels like your heart has shattered into pieces by a life-changing event. Who knew th…

Is Given a technical masterpiece? Maybe, maybe not. Is it a bit strange, even borderline corny at times? Perhaps. Does it impart some everlasting, life-changing truth about the human condition? Probably not.
But for an anime depicting the sometimes awkward, ye…
Read full review on AniList →I loved that a BL manga was adapted to an anime.
“Given” is based on the ongoing manga of the same name by Natsuki Kizu that started in 2013. The popularity of the manga with its two sets of diverse love couples and interesting side characters that surround them have spawned an 11 episode anime and an hour film one year later (all available on Cru…
