Happy Sugar Life is a tragedy. I mean this in both literary and quality terms.
Happy Sugar Life is a tragedy. I mean this in both literary and quality terms. Despite how interestingly and enticingly crafted this tragic tale is, and how effectively some of its presentation is, this show has one fatal flaw: overemphasis. One wouldn’t think that this is so catastrophic, but Happy…

~~~Spoiler-free review~~~
When I first saw the trailer for Happy Sugar Life, I was insanely hyped. Yandere is such a fun character type that is unfortunately rare to come across. So, when I saw a show about a super cute, pink-haired, double-bunned yande…
>I won't let anyone stand in the way of my love. Even if it sends me to **** - Satou Matsuzaka
Happy Sugar Life is not for everyone. If you have problems watching pedophilia, sexual harassment, murder and psycho characters searching for love in their own concept, this is not for you. However, if yo…
~~~Before I get into the actual review here, I'd like to add that I first watched Happy Sugar Life in early 2022. Or well, tried to. I got through…
Read full review on AniList →Not perfect, but it doesn't want or need to be. Resourcefully uses episode time to address all the looming questions.
About halfway through this one - I had that...odd gut-twisting feeling. This anime to me was just bizarre, really. The story centers on Satou Matsuzaka, a deceptively ordinary high-school girl who isn't so ordinary, as is revealed in the very first few minutes of the anime that she jumps off of a bu…

~~~Plot: Satou is a normal high school girl, or so it seems because in reality she has a relationship with a girl of the primary schools, everything is normal or so it seems until when in order to create her own Happy Sugar Life Satou starts to commit crimes of a certain level leaving behind a trail…
__THIS IS A FULL SPOILERS REVIEW! But...the first episode of the anime basically spoils what this entire series is at the very start so... ~~and also kind of the ending.~~__
Read full review on AniList →Happy Sugar Life is one of the most difficult to describe anime I have ever watched.
I think this is probably one of the most personally resonant anime I have ever watched, in the absolute most depressing way possible, and I don't think I could ever recommend it to anyone.
I think this story has, by complete accident, made an extremely deep, nuanced depiction of the cycle of abuse,…
This had some good moments but sadily those weren't enough to save it :v
While I'd first heard of Happy Sugar Life around the time the anime was being aired, I never got around to watching it until recently. Having done that, I would argue that it's a hidden gem with a suspenseful, addicting plot and some truly intriguing characters. In spite of this, I wouldn't say that…
Happy Sugar Life is a very interesting show that is focused on two girls, __Satou Matsuzaka__ and __Shio Kobe__.
Read full review on AniList →I see this as a gothic "non-romance" ... It's an interesting variation & subversion of the Yandere archetype.
I like gothic romances, but they kinda *** me out because they tend to revolve around the abuser in a hopeless, cyclical fashion. Which, to be fair, is realistic about the experience, but not completely. Victims are still capable of escape and hope.
I like "non-romantic" romances, but it's extremel…
In the introduction to Piero Camporesi's The Juice of Life, Umberto Eco talks about the kind of disgust elicited by the carnal morbidity of the former author's scholarship on the medieval conception of the body; he compares binging on Camporesi to swimming in a pool full of human waste, or a pool fu…
